Dark Shadows

We went to the movies to go see Dark Shadows. I have always enjoyed going to the movies. I would do it more often if it wasn’t so expensive.

Most of the theaters I’ve been to have game rooms. It’s the perfect place to spend even more money before you make it to the concession stand. Aaron and I played the claw game and each won a toy. We’re keeping them for our beagle Lacey. She loves toys more than any dog I’ve even seen. After our winnings we got our $20 popcorn and soda then proceeded to the show.

I have to say the movie wan’t bad. I personally am a huge fan of Tim Burton, but this is one film I won’t be purchasing. I just didn’t enjoy it like I thought I would. The story line seemed to be too jumbled. It just wasn’t well put together.

Afterwords we went to Goodwill. I love digging through things at this store. You never know what your going to find. That goes with any thrift store or garage sale. I stumbled upon an amazing mirror. It was only $30!! Although I have no place to put it at the moment I had to have it.

Mi amore cagnina de romagna red

Aaron and I don’t know a lot about wine, but we want to. We have started going to wine tastings and every now and then we’ll purchase a bottle of something random to see if we like it. I went to Spec’s looking for something that  mirrored the same flavor as Rosa Regale, a sparkling wine. I didn’t want a sparkling wine though.  We can never seem to finish the bottle and then it goes bad. The employee there recommended two wines to me. I opted to just get the one bottle to see if we liked it. Late yesterday we tried it and wow was she right. This wine was fabulous! It is intensely sweet and rich in flavor. If you like brut wine than this is not for you. I chilled mine before drinking it. I found it to be very refreshing. I will be purchasing more of this wine in the future. Seeing that it’s only around $10 a bottle I found it to be a great deal for as good as it is. They make a white version as well. I’m eager to try it.

Rammstien

I found out last week that Rammstein, one of my favorite bands, was going to be playing in San Antonio. I couldn’t believe it. I franticly looked for tickets and was able to secure some. I got off work early Thursday and went to pick Aaron up. We drove to San Antonio and had diner on the river walk. Since we had a couple of hours to kill before the concert we walked around and went to go see the Alamo. Afterwords my feet hurt and I was freaking out trying to find a store that had good/cheap shoes. However, while on my journey for shoes I ended up in the ghetto and there was nothing so I had to just grin and bear it. I have a keen sense for direction you see. I just drive in the direction I think something should be and it always leads me to nothing. Had I gone right instead of left I would have found a mall and comfortable shoes. Well The concert was amazing. This band is just as good live as they are listening to them on your ipod. The concert had fire, smoke, lights and amazing artists. It started off with a DJ that blew my mind. He was so incredible, I wish I knew who it was so I could buy some of his stuff.  I am just so pleased with my experience that I now know that every time they come back to the United States come hell or high water I’ll be going. The only thing I wish could have gone better is my camera. I wasn’t able to get as many good quality shots as I had hoped. I’ve put a few here though.

Toasted Malt Milkshake

I found this recipe on Austin 360 and thought I would share it. I think I might try this out for summer. It sounds fantastic!

This milkshake combines the creamy richness of the classic malted milkshake with the flavor of a toasted almond cocktail. The result is a toasty, malty, frothy treat. Malted milk powder can be found in the grocer’s baking aisle, or sometimes with the coffee and tea.

1/4 cup Ovaltine Classic Malt

1 cup vanilla ice cream

1 oz. amaretto liqueur

1 oz. Kahlua liqueur

1 oz. Frangelico liqueur

Finely chopped toasted almonds, to garnish

In a blender, combine the malted milk powder, vanilla ice cream, amaretto, Kahlua and Frangelico. Blend until smooth.

Slightly moisten the rims of 2 glasses, then overturn them and dip the rims in the toasted almonds. Pour the milkshake into the center of the glasses without disturbing the rims. Serves 2.

Abstractness

I thought I would gather some makeup together and see where it would take me. This is what I got.

I took some shots with flash. I’ve been using my iphone camera which wold explain the horrible quality. Sorry about that.

Silver and gold

Today I wanted to do something a little less dramatic. I opted for a silver and gold look with a bit of brown on the lower lash line. I used honeymoon from Toofaced and Electra and Espresso from MAC. I lined with a black eyeliner and then put the Stila liner over that. The Stila liner had lots of glitter that came through, but my camera didn’t seem to pick any of that up. This looked loads better in person.

Smokey fire eyes

This is what I wore today to the Deutschen Pfest in Pflugerville, TX.

I used Mac eyeshadow aside from the yellow which came from an eBay palette. I put NYX milk in the inner corner to help the yellow pop.

Deutschen Pfest

We went to Deutschen Pfest today in Pflugerville Texas. It was not as Deutsch as I had anticipated. There was people singing in Deutsch, but other than that there wasn’t anything Deutsch about it. It didn’t stop me from having a good time though. We walked around and looked at all the booths. There is usually tons of different things to purchase at these little festivals. I managed to not purchase anything other than food and margaritas. Yes, margaritas at a Deutsch festival. They were awful too. We honestly spend most of our time at the petting zoo. I couldn’t stay away from all the little piglets.

After the festival I managed to talk Aaron into going antiquing at a store in Round Rock Texas. This store is cram packed full of awesome stuff. I love going down every isle and seeing what we can find. I did manage to purchase a little silver plate for $2.70! I’m not sure how valuable it is. I think I got a good deal though. It’s stamped on the back “imported silver”. I think it may be silver plated.

Not a Wino!!

One day I was exploring things to do on Austin360 and found an ad for a wine tasting class. Usually something like this wouldn’t interest me, but I’m trying experience more things. For $25.00 you join a small class and discuss a wine topic and sample five wines. Aaron and I are not wine people, but we would like to be. Seeing as there are literally thousands of different flavors of wine, there has to be something we will like. Our class was at House Wine in downtown Austin. It’s an adorable little place and thank God there is parking in the back! The staff was very courteous and directed us to the back. We sat with a group of 12 people or so. Everyone was very nice, but kept to who they came with. We were all given a cheese platter. I’m not one for cheese, but I was determined to try everything. Much to my surprise the cheese was fantastic. I have already emailed them for the cheese spread recipe. I could eat that daily it was so good.

We started off with a white wine. It wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t for me. However, I did enjoy hearing all the details and little facts about the wine and vineyards. As each glass came they turned from white to red. Aaron and I had to prepare ourselves to finish each glass. I’m not going to lie, it was a challenge. When we had first arrived we noticed some cups on one of the tables. We both assumed the cups were there to dump the wine in if you didn’t like it. That was not the case. Everyone happily finished their glass. The cups were simply for water. By the last glass I looked around the room and everyone looked quite a bit more relaxed and started to mingle. I guess all it takes is a little wine to brighten a room. I’ll have to remember that.

We stayed for a bit, but didn’t care for anymore wine. I filled up on some water instead. Aaron decided that since he had to endure the wine class I had to take him to Chuy’s. So off to Chuy’s we went. My overall experience with the wine tasting was positive. I will definitely do it again, but next time I’ll wait until they’re sampling dessert wines. The staff at the Wine House was great and I recommend everyone to go to one of their tastings. Just be sure to call and reserve a spot.
